Architecture Practice Relies on Clare Computer Solutions For IT Support and Special Projects
MBH Architects is a highly successful architectural firm noted for their quality work and aesthetic design elements. They have been a client of Clare Computer Solutions (CCS) since 2004 when they decided to upgrade their servers, and again in 2012 when they became an ongoing IT Managed Services Client, using CCS proprietary NetCentral solution.
In 2015, MBH made a decision to move into new offices. About 6 months prior to the anticipated move date, they began consulting with CCS to plan the technology move project. MBH has an in-house IT department, and IT Manager Andy Abadia got CCS involved early on in the process.
“An architectural firm presents some unique challenges for moving an IT infrastructure”, Abadia pointed out. “Obviously, our offices need to reflect our architectural expertise, so the technology has to fit into the work space in a way that does not detract from that image.”
MBH had contracted with a moving company to physically move what needed to be moved, but they also installed some new equipment in the new office, so CCS duties included:
- Being involved in the planning process
- Installing the entire IT infrastructure and making sure it works, and efficiently
- Addressing any issues that arise during the process
Any office technology move entails ordering and provisioning new telephone and/or data lines, addressing any needs: electric power, cabling the new workspace and setting up work spaces. But MBH also has a large SAN infrastructure as well, and since CCS had helped set that up initially, they were well-poised to set it up at the new location.
“On the weekend of the technology move”, said Abadia, “CCS had employees at our site at all times, which worked out very well. One of the communications line vendors missed the deadline, so we had to temporarily configure the secondary line as the main connection, and then once the primary line was in, re-configure the routers use the primary and be able to fail over to the secondary if needed.”
Moving a company is a stressful endeavor, but the combined skills of the technical personnel at MBH and CCS, along with their long-term relationship, made for a smooth transition to the new office. “CCS works very well with our IT department”, said Abadia. “We handle most of the hands-on in house things and they act as our infrastructure watchdogs, monitoring everything, getting involved in projects and even being a part of our strategic IT budgeting.”
