VMware has extended the general support for vSphere 6.5 to a full five years from the date of its release, meaning the general support for vSphere 6.5 will end November 15, 2021. The End of General for vSphere 6.7 will also be on November 15, 2021.

Why Upgrade from v5.5?
vSphere 6.5 provides a highly available, resilient, on-demand infrastructure that creates an ideal foundation for many virtualized environments. Offering owners innovation that will enable their digital transformation. It should also be noted, vSphere 6.5 is the foundation for a hybrid-cloud strategy within VMWare. Support changes are on the horizon as all technical guidance will be moved to VMware's Self-Help Portal. It should be noted that during this process, VMware will not offer any new hardware support for servers, clients, guest OS, or bug fixes unless otherwise noted.
Steps towards Upgrading to v6.5
The upgrade of your virtual environment to vSphere 6.5 can be done in a series of phases with components that are upgraded earlier are fully compatible with those components that have not yet upgraded.
- Perform an upgrade of vCenter Server along with associated VMware Solutions.
- Upgrade vSphere hosts to VMware ESXi 6.5
- Update vRealize Log Insight for vCenter Server and Operations

In the event you are unable to upgrade before the End of General Support (EOGS) and are active on Support and Subscription, you have the option to purchase extended support in one-year increments for up to two years beyond the EOGS date.
